Flying from London City Airport

A holiday in Nice enabled me to fulfil a bucket-list item - namely flying from London City Airport in Docklands.

The aircraft was a British Airways City Flyer 106 seat Embraer 190

The take-off was VERY steep and banked immediately to clear the tall Canary Wharf buildings - landing was another matter on a day (15 September 2025) with 40+mph gusts of wind . . .  on the first attempt the aircraft was blown too far down the very short runway and the landing was aborted at about 20 feet off the ground to climb rapidly, make another circuit and then land.  Interesting!

Anorak time:  London City Airport holds the position of 81st in the number of airports/heliports that I have flown from or to - from a first flight at Southend in January 1958.

.oOo.
Remarkably even with a night in a local hotel and parking the cost of the flights from LCY to Nice were about 25%  less than flying with Jet2 from our nearest airport, Birmingham - the killer was £160 on top of the headline flight cost to take hold luggage.

The photographs are stock pictures from the Internet.
