When I lived on the N Essex/Herts border back in the 1970s and early 80s the annual treat on Good Friday mornings was Hot Cross Buns* from Dorringtons - a small chain of long-established bakeries with 12 branches, stretching from Bishop's Stortford to Cambridge.
When we were in Essex a few weeks ago I bought a packet of the rather special buns to keep in the freezer until today. They taste just as good as they did all those years ago!
*back in the day they sold them "loose" from large trays - all packaged nowadays.
